YOGA YOGA: 256@50

The lyrics and beats are not that outstanding; for a second it reminded me of the music from Lion King and songs in those movies Hollywood made about post-colonial Africa; many about the vigor and boldness of what being African is about. Persistence.

But ‘Yoga Yoga’, the official Uganda Jubilee song has the vocal ticks and for sounding ‘African’ yet modern at the same time, good job. Esther Nabaasa, Barbara Kayaga, Richard Kaweesa, Ham K, Richie & Ruyonga take you on a catchy and groovy 4:27sec journey on this one.

Brilliant title if you ask me, lacks the obvious touch (some people might need language ‘yoga’ lessons to say the title out). ‘Yoga Yoga’ (pronunciation: Your-gah Your-gah) is a Luganda two-word phrase for ‘congratulations’.

Officially unveiled today, Wednesday September 05, 2012, the song congratulates the Pearl of Africa upon making it thus far and somewhere, calls for unity which is crucial if more jubilees are to come.

Do Ugandans have a reason to ‘yoga yoga’ leave alone groove to the sound of the 50th step? I don’t know, but for now, *clicks replay* Yoga Yoga. Follow @SongaStone
