MY NAME IS PROSCOVIA ALENGAT, I AM 19 YEARS-OLD & THE USUK MP.

Truth. Had it not been for 19-year-old Proscovia Alengot, NRM was poised to lose the two by-elections (lost the Butambala seat to DP but won the Usuk seat) just like it has in the past.

Many voters ticked against Scovia’s name with a level of sympathy given her father’s death giving NRM a ‘sympathetic path’ to victory. Perhaps many were unaware that sending a teenager fresh out of High School was helping the producers of this movie acquire their much wanted ending. Neither were they aware that in one way or another, they were depriving her of a chance to enjoy her youthful days.

But maybe all critics are wrong. Maybe this girl will help sustain Usuk county; maybe she will prove many of us wrong……after all, some of these extremely schooled legislators in parliament are not necessarily doing a lot for their constituents even with kilograms of knowledge.

The people seem to adore her. They said that when they voted for her.

For now, much as it is a fact few people would proudly throw around, Uganda is making headlines for having the youngest legislator arguably in the world. Sounds positive. And I strongly disagree with those that see this as some sort of exploitation. Alengat’s possible salary and perks don’t really sound exploitative.

Whether this was a political card she played on her own most probably in honour of her father, Michael Oromait (RIP) who was the area MP till death or a card many arms helped select, there is another first on Ugandan soil. Forget the binge drinking records, the award winning corruption rates…….this is as controversial as it is positive.

A UACE certificate does not guarantee comprehension of the constitution but has now made a girl a Member of the 9th Parliament of Uganda. In a few words, HER NAME IS PROSCOVIA ALENGAT, SHE IS CURRENTLY 19 & THE USUK MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT. And she has hordes talking.

  1. Evans walusimbi Says:

    Age 2 me does’nt matter,not even education,but some one’s reasoning capacity.think she has what it takes,and a young brain too.Prossy go,work in favour of your country,be a nationalist and avoid corruption 2 pass on some other’s needs,learn 2 be streight and wiz God,u’ll.NRM

    • I solely agree with you Evans. To be a good leader is not all about age. It is all about believing in yourself. The world has witnessed young leaders make an impact despite their age. Leaders such as the ones listed below;
      Alexander the Great who assumed the kingship of Macedon aged 20; while
      Joan of Arc led the French army in the siege of Orleans aged 19;
      William Pitt became British Prime Minister aged 24;
      Steve Jobs founded Apple aged 21
      Richard Branson founded the Virgin Group aged 20.
      Charles Dunstone co-founded The Carphone Warehouse aged 25
      Mark Zuckerberg set up Facebook aged 20

      AGE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SUCCESS LEVELS!!
